The South Moravian region was the home or place of work of a number of successful personalities from various areas. Notable artists, men of science, politicians and many other personalities of outstanding quality and fame resided here; here they worked and lived out their everyday highs and lows. Their names are important for the memory of this beautiful land and for the people who live here right now. Let us bring to mind some personalities which we, as South Moravians, are proud of. Personalities whose statues have been erected as an expression of our gratitude; many streets, squares, universities, theatres have been named after them, exhibitions are dedicated to them, their books are being published and scientific meetings about them are held. So let us set out in the footsteps of our famous natives and ancestors and on this wandering let us try to bring back to life the stories and fates of those who had lived them out.

The City of Brno, the second biggest city in the Czech Republic with more than thousand years of history, is the business and social centre of the South Moravian Region. It is seat of a number of institutions, universities, highest government bodies and embassies of several countries. Visitors also know the city thanks to various cultural, sporting and social events.

The predominant folk culture of the easternmost part of the South Moravia region is unrivalled in the context of the whole Czech Republic. It is represented by much more than just the Museum of Folk Culture, the Open Air Museum of Folk Architecture, the International Folklore Festival at Strážnice, and the numerous other folklore museums and perfomances of local folklore ensembles. The most important fact is that the traditional folk culture is still living in Moravian Slovakia, including folklore feasts and other festival and ceremonies of folk culture held not only as tourist attraction but also out of the intrinsic need to continue in the traditions of the ancestors...

The most attractive parts of the Znojemsko region can be found near the Austrian border. They mainly include the town of Znojmo with its historic monuments, charming surroundings and excellent wine, but also the deep valley of the Dyje river.
