CENTROPE - Four Countries, One Region

Through South Moravia Christianity spread into Europe, and over the centuries many small and larger towns grew up along its rivers, while vineyards and orchards were established on its hillsides. The region can boast historical and architectural treasures, secular and sacred, that are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. (www.jizni-morava.cz).

T he Central Europe Region (an EU cross-border region bringing together adjacent parts of the Czech and Slovak republics, Hungary and Austria, has recently produced a publication entitled The CENTROPE Route Wine & Architecture. It is a very special kind of guidebook which takes lovers of wine and architecture to twenty-four destinations in the Central Europe Region. The route include wine tastings in South Moravia, West Slovakia and Lower Austria, Vienna and the Burgenland and Western Hungarr. For those with a little more time there is more detailed information including tips on accommodation and gastronomy (www.centrope.info). South Moravia is a part of CENTROPE. It is divided into four wine sub-regions: the Znojmo, Mikulov, Velké Pavlovice and Slovácko sub-regions (www. vinazmoravy.cz). During the year an incredible quantity of cultural and social events that combine wine and tradition in a unique way distinctive of the region take place in each of these sub-regions.
